EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – The Byrne Dairy Facility in East Syracuse is set for an expansion.

It will be the third expansion at the plant in 15 years for Byrne Dairy. New York State is contributing $15 million through Regional Economic Development Council award money (REDC).

The project is a total of $24 million and will be completed by August 2019. This new expansion will create and retain 250 jobs. Byrne Dairy is already planning a fourth expansion.

“That will be just more equipment and packaging lines,” said Mark Byrne, CEO of SonByrne Sales. “This one is to get more efficient with some packaging lines we already have and some better equipment to speed up our process. And then we are going to add- on almost plant basically. We are going to double the place next time.”

Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul (D) was at Thursday’s groundbreaking for the facility. She says Byrne Dairy an “incredible success story.”

“There will be more people working here. They have over 750 employees statewide this will create and retain another 250 jobs,” Hochul said. “I will tell you this is so important for young people to see there are opportunities right in their hometown right in Central New York at places like Byrne Dairy.”
